The new phonetic alphabet uses the regular alphabet to show the first twenty-six sounds of the English language. When students learn their ABC’s, they know twenty-six sounds. All they have to do is learn to recognize the other eighteen sounds to sound out words at all levels.

Pick a name (preferably your child’s first name or name and initials) and choose a password that you can remember. Example: Wendy or Wendy3. We will send you a confirmation e-mail for login. Login and start the lessons. The website will keep track of your child’s progress provided you use the same name and password each time you sign-in.

Two generous mom’s made it possible. Their sons, who have dyslexia, benefited from the ReadingBySix program. The parents made it possible for us to put up the website using their contributions. This will help children whose parents may not be able to hire full time tutors. Also, generous visitors make contributions through the Honor System.

The standards are high because we want every student to meet the same standards across the board. It also challenges students to do their very best. They quickly accept the fact that if they do not get 100%, they will have to do it over.

We do offer certificates for students who complete both the ABC’s and the basic reading course. Certificates will be generated after each course. The certificate will use you or your students profile information.

First, explain to the child that all students learn at a different rate of speed. Also, explain that even though they learn slowly, they will have to meet the same requirements as everyone else, but it might take a little longer. Dyslexic students must pass each test with the highest possible standards. Some might have to take each course twice. The repetition will help improve their short-term memory.

Dennis Brooks developed ReadingBySix over a period of sixteen years. It took ten years of development and six years of testing. He was a curriculum developer for the US Army before he started teaching elementary school.
10.
A.
Students will be learning both of the English languages, the written form and the spoken form. The spoken form is the phonetic version and is based on the 44 sounds of the English language. The written form is based on the 26 letters of the alphabet.
11.
A.
It depends on the individual student. If the child has no problems processing sounds, it may take only one time through the lessons. If the child shows signs of dyslexia, it could take several times through the course. Eventually, the child will overcome the problem and learn to read.
12.
A.

Yes. All of the reading courses are available from the publisher. www.airleaf.com. Courses come in three-ring binders. Teachers may conveniently remove the lessons and test and replace them after the student has completed them. Have your children practice reading regular children’s books. You will notice the improvement as they become more successful at sounding out new words.
18.
A.
Start with Dr. Seuss type books and then go to children’s books with short stories. The repetition in these books helps to lock common sight words into long-term memory.

Note: We would like to extend a special thanks to all of the product testers who tested ReadingBySix throughout 2006 and provided feedback. Thank you for your comments. They helped to make ReadingBySix better. Please continue to provide feedback so that we may continue to improve ReadingBySix.com.
